A.L. DENTEL
Five Meditations on Sleep for rocks, water, all-thread, wineglasses and voice. Pieces about sleep deprevation and sleep inducement, inspired by Xito.
two new compositions from a series of works for rocks and water that explore motion and rest. Umi- for sand and granite rocks, influenced by the motion of waves, eddies and undertows in the sea, this piece uses materials from the beach to play with the sound of circles.. Jiku – for air bubbles and wobbling rocks. This work is comprised of the sounds of settling. It flirts with the complex interplay and not-entirely-predictable nature of the rhythms produced by the instruments as they are set into motion and then find their way back to a state of rest.
PATTY LIU
a small, structured improvisation exploring tiny sounds.
JOHN INGLE
Biography:
Saxophonist John Ingle is originally from Memphis, TN and now resides and works in San Francisco. His music is informed and influenced by contemparary concert music, jazz, electronic music, improvised music, various Asian folk traditions, and the blues and gospel of his native
Southeast US. He currently collaborates with electronics innovator Laetitia Sonami, in duo with composer/dulcimerist Dan Joseph, and in the quartet “Shinola”. He also performs with the new music group “sfSound Ensemble” and with the popular electric-jazz-rock band “Britches Brue”(sic). John’s solo saxophone music emphasizes multiphonics and subtle control of extended saxophone techniques. He has developed a style of harmonic singing that he uses through the saxophone. This wide timbral palate has led to many collaborations with electronic musicians, including David Behrman, John Bischoff, Chris Brown, and Laetitia Sonami. John has performed in North America, Europe, and Asia with such diverse artists as Eliane Radigue, Wadada Leo Smith, Miya Masaoka, Marco Eneidi, Williiam Winant, Douglas Ewart, India Cook, Frederic Blin, Fred Frith, the Memphis Symphony, the Taipei Philharmonic and pop icon Stevie Wonder. Recent concerts include performances with Laetitia Sonami at the Extended Instrument Festival at Engine 27 in NYC, and a solo concert at Acme Observatory in Berkeley, CA. John was a y2k artist-in-residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts, where he produced “heremusic”, a large scale multimedia concert with kinetic sculptor Mike Meyers, the fim collective “silt”, and an ensemble of musicians performing his new site-specific compositions.
