followed by Q&A

Produced by Louis F. Dematteis and Dante Betteo

Starring Richard Montoya and Veronica Valencia
Production Design by Rene Yanez

Adapted for the screen from a story by SF Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguia.

As if ripped from today’s headlines reporting fires, evictions and protests in the streets, this film noir follows housing inspector Roberto Morales as he investigates the suspicious circumstances of a fatal residential hotel fire in San Francisco’s rapidly gentrifying Latino Mission District. He finds himself face-to-face with murder in the streets, corruption at City Hall and the mysterious Sofia Nido, a dangerous flame from his past.

Adapted from a short story by San Francisco Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguia and set against the current epidemic of evictions and gentrification, THE OTHER BARRIO is a fictionalized account of true events. The film takes viewers deep into neighborhoods and communities seldom seen on film, while addressing the timely issues of gentrification and displacement of ethnic and low-income communities.

Event is free, donations accepted.
